As a member of Jones-Onslow Electric Membership Corporation (JOEMC), you have various options for paying your electric bill. You can choose the method that works best for you, whether online, by mail, or in person. This document will guide you through the different payment options available and answer any questions you may have.
Understanding Your Bill
Before we dive into the payment options, it’s essential to understand your bill. Your JOEMC bill includes the following information:
- Account Information: This section includes your account number, service address, and contact information.
- Electric Usage: This section shows your current electric usage, the previous month’s usage, and the total amount of electricity used.
- Charges: This section breaks down the charges for your electricity usage, including the amount due, the due date, and any late fees or penalties.
- Payment Stub: This section includes a payment stub that you can use to make your payment.
Facilities Charges
As a member of JOEMC, you make an investment in your co-op every time you pay your bill. This collective investment in the co-op benefits you and the community immediately and over time. The “Facilities Charge” line item on your electric bill is a monthly investment that helps your co-op cover the expenses of maintaining the overall electric system. This includes combating cybersecurity threats, maintaining poles, wires, substations, and co-op equipment. Regardless of how much electricity a particular family uses, the cost of delivering power to that house, apartment, or modular home is the same. As a not-for-profit electric cooperative, JOEMC believes that the operational costs should be spread fairly and equitably across all members, regardless of the level of electricity use.
